Nik & Kristen’s Joint Pick: Heather McGarvey for Shamong Township Council
We thought 2021 would be the election year of the Tiger parents, and that New Jersey would be saved from the reign of Phil Murphy. Parents of all political backgrounds became vocal, active and organized. Sadly, it seemed that no one in the leadership of the GOP establishment was ready to embrace the causes of parental rights, medical freedom, and a return to patriotic, conservative values.
When 2021 ended in an overall loss to the leftist lunacy of masking, mandates, and indoctrination, it felt hopeless for many. We waived goodbye to many fellow New Jersey conservatives as the headed for the greener pastures of Florida, South Carolina, and other better-run States.
Others dug in. Nik and I are not leaving (yet), and there are plenty of fellow Mama Bears and Tiger Dads ready to hold the line. It means we have to work harder, be even more committed to running for local office, and put our focus on returning each time individual municipality and School Board election on our radar.
We need an army of parents to swing the pendulum of American culture back to a place of unity, freedom, and prosperity.
Be the one. Be the one who steps up in your town. If you lead, others will follow.
When I first met Heather and her husband “in real life”, I immediately noticed her confidence, intelligence and willingness to put in the work to make change. She was unafraid to question the S.O.P. of the Burlington County Republican Committee “voting” convention for primary endorsements. Heather asks questions without fear. We need leaders unafraid to question then establishment “business as usual” process. Running the same losing playbook doesn’t deserve blind loyalty.
I wasn’t tired of winning.
Fearless leadership wins.
Meet one such leader.
Kristen: Who are you? Describe your professional background, family anecdotes, political involvement history and personal values.
Heather: My name is Heather McGarvey, and I am a wife, mother of seven, grandmother of four, paralegal, GOP committee woman for district 1 in Shamong, conservative, and college student returned for government and constitutional law.
Kristen: Why are you running?
Heather: Because I couldn't sit idly by and watch people continue to destroy this great country.
Kristen: What is your stance on parental choice for medical freedom in schools?
Heather: I removed my 2 youngest children from public school because of the mask mandate and will be keeping them out if they keep this outrageous sexual curriculum in for next year.
Kristen: What is your favorite Constitutional amendment?
Heather: The 2nd Amendment; it defends all the others.
Kristen: How will you distinguish yourself among the primary pack?
Heather: I am always available to talk or help anyone I can. I am very active in the community because of my many children and my interest in it.
Kristen: What are your top platform issues and how do you propose to achieve those in a legislative solution?
Heather: One: I oppose big, outside companies coming into Shamong just to grow pot. The people okayed it for our farmers and residents.
Two: My opponent, Neil Wilkinson, is the pot commission chair and is a former Democrat. Mr. Wilkinson proposes Shamong use money from our open space fund and use it for his pet project: To save a termite-infested house that has never been declared historical.
Three: The out-going Mayor doesn't want appear to welcome a woman on the council: there has only been one female representative in more than sixty years of a five-member council. Our kids need more activities. and our young woman need strong conservativerole models.
Kristen: Who are your biggest supporters, professionally and personally?
Heather: My family of course, and my boss, who is Deputy Mayor.
Kristen: Give me your best pitch on why and how we can support your campaign
Heather: I love Shamong, the kids, the families, the farms and the land and will do everything I can to keep it the wonderful place it is. Help me by voting in the primary on June 7th!
Heather, you are easy to endorse. Shamong is ready to embrace a leader like you. Get it done!
