Letter: Quarantine Healthy Students
Copy letter to address unfair quarantine practices at school
As you may well know by now that there are different quarantine measures for different students in school due to the CDC based on vaccination status.
Keep in mind this is NOT part of Murphy’s mandates. The schools are choosing to do this on their OWN based on CDC recommendations.
The below letter was submitted to us by an informed Woodbridge mom. She was so kind as to let us send this out her sample letter. You can also use this for a BOE speech.
The schools are becoming more and more out of control, we need to rein them in. The legislature needs to hear from parents and so does the BOE, we cannot allow more injustices to happen to our kids.
Dear NJ Representative,
I am writing regarding the NJ Department of Health Guidelines for schools and quarantining. If a student is deemed in “close contact” with someone who tested positive, they are being quarantined for 14 days, no matter if they test negative every single day. The vaccinated children are not subject to this guideline, and they continue going to school.
This is complete discrimination on non-vaccinated children who are not sick. Our children have been through enough through this pandemic and their mental health needs to be considered. We as parents completely understand and agree with not sending our kids to school if they are sick. But to deny my healthy child the right to attend school, sports, and other activities because “someone” said they were in “close contact” with “someone”, is completely unacceptable. And the fact that vaccinated children are free to continue, not even being tested, is COMPLETE DISCRIMINATION.
Please change demand that the school revise its rules reflect our constitutional rights as parents, and our children’s rights as students in the New Jersey Public School system. We as parents will not allow this discrimination to continue. It is harming the most important people in our lives. I petition to you to please change these unnecessary and unconstitutional school quarantine “guidelines” immediately.
I would like to bring to your attention the recent ruling by Honorable Judge Don Andrews, for Edmund School in Oklahoma County. Andrews’ order said that the district’s policy likely violates the equal protection rights guaranteed to students by the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Andrews declares:
“The District quarantined unvaccinated-yet-healthy children based on concern that some of those students could become asymptomatic transmitters of Covid-19. But evidence before the Court shows that in practice, the policy of removing unvaccinated-yet-healthy children from the classroom provided no benefit in slowing the spread of Covid-19. The policy did, however, inflict tremendous harm on some of those students, pushing them to the brink of suicide, while causing others to fall significantly behind in their studies. The district’s policy is irrational and fails to balance any of the known dangers associated with quarantining children against the fear of asymptomatic spread among unvaccinated students.”

This case is not unique. This is EXACTLY what is going on in New Jersey right now. Please help us as parents protect our children’s rights and mental well-being. This is devastating to the children’s mental health. We as adults cannot allow this. Parents all over New Jersey are uniting on this and will not let it continue.
I can be reached at this email address, or ###-###-####, if you would be so kind to reach out, and I can give further details of the specific circumstances and discrimination against my child from their school. Also, please forward this message to any appropriate parties regarding this issue.
