Hold your school accountable. THANKS for the sample letter Kellie!!! Don't let them get away with anything.
Ms. D------,
My son was issued a gator style mask from a staff person last year. No one said anything when he wore it to school last spring. Including Mr. M------- who checked him in at the entry way last year. No one said anything to him all day until last period. Mr. R------- supervises the drop off area where my son enters the building and he didn't say anything either. Ms. D------, how can you be sure that it is not acceptable to wear if everyone else accepted it all day long, including the vice principal, and last year as well? Do not tell my child what is or isn't acceptable until you are 100% certain.
Every time there is a discrepancy, complaint, or hypocritical situation with the mask wearing, I will be in contact with the staff person or people involved. This needs to stop now. The hypocritical and harassing way that the mask rules are handled is not acceptable.
The staff needs to focus on the curriculum and back off of the mask issue a bit. Acting like the 'mask-police' has a negative impact on the students. Let the kids breathe as best as they can, given the current circumstances. Let them focus on learning!!!
His face was covered. Why can't that be enough? These kids need to be given some grace. One day, the gator is acceptable and that's showing grace to the student. But on another day it's not and then it's a problem for the student. I am very upset that the staff is so inconsistent and unfair to these students.
Regards,
Kellie M
