This week, Bill S3907 was introduced that would seek to punish libraries or school districts that exclude books from their collection by withholding state funding.
Originally, this bill was being sponsored by groomer-in-chief Senator Andrew Zwicker (LD-16) who was also the guy that proposed making NJ a sanctuary state for juvenile sex changes, that was ultimately fast-tracked with an executive order by King Murphy.
Now the bill number and primary sponsor has been changed to Senate Majority Leader, Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (LD-23), with a companion bill in the assembly sponsored by Mila M. Jasey (LD-27).
Under bill S3893, libraries and school districts would be required to:
Adopt the ALA ‘Library Bill of Rights’ OR
A similar policy that prevents books from being banned or restricted based on ‘partisan or doctrinal’ disapproval
So, is porn for children now deemed ‘partisan’ and permissible? Will every school be able to carry a subscription to Hustler magazine?
How does the state reconcile this with the law that says it’s a crime to expose children to obscene materials? This law is extremely specific and if it is followed, these books should be prohibited. If you haven’t read it, you should.
The bill goes on to threaten that ALL or part of state aid can be withheld from any party that does not comply. This is just another example of the state waging war on parental rights and taking more power away from local school boards to be able to decide what is best for their communities.
What can you do?
Support local school boards who are pushing back on inappropriate materials. Show up at meetings and speak in support of removing pornographic content.
Run for school board. Elections happen annually and the filing date is rapidly approaching.
CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS. They are ALL up for election this year. Let them know that you do not support this bill and they need to represent you and fight this.
Share these articles with people and on social media. You’d be surprised how many people have no idea of the legislation being pushed in this state.
Don’t be gaslit by LGBTQ groups saying LGBTQ books are being targeted because of homophobia or some other bigoted viewpoint. The only books being challenged are those that contain OBSCENE content. Period.
This legislation comes right after parents have been challenging books all over New Jersey. Last Night over 500 parents came to Roxbury Township BOE meeting last night to protect children of all sexual orientation from obscenity in the school library. The Roxbury Librarian, Roxanna Caivano, is suing parents for “defamation” for speaking out against the pornography books she has chosen in the library. The Roxbury Moms have set up a Give Send Go, to help pay for this frivolous lawsuit. Last night, parents printed out posters and held up signs Lafayette Township school board member, Josh Aikens, Spoke out for the children at the Roxbury BOE meeting.
We will discuss this more in our next article.
I assume this librarian is suing the parents and never putting her hand in her pocket? If so, she needs to be civilly sued, spending her own money. Seems parents will be paying for their own attorneys while she does not, therefore paying for her as well.
Thanks for the update, Nik. Doing my part on this end!
