Kristen’s Pick: Ryan Cody, Bordentown Board of Education
Some men need no introduction.
If you are reading this newsletter, I have a sneaking suspicion that you heard the name “Ryan Cody” long before you heard of me, or Nik, or even before you were ready to utter the words, “unmask our kids”.
Ryan was my introduction to the scene of Tiger Dads on the move. While I was dipping my toe in the water of writing letters to my own BOE, maintaining a quiet social media profile, Ryan was emboldening parents across Facebook and YouTube with his bold, articulate, and unapologetic moves. He and his family were freedom fighters for the children before I even knew there were like-minded parents ready to step forward.
First, I watched Ryan’s maskless Wawa runs. I studied his confident posts in groups of parents all wanting some level of normalcy for their kids-all of of unsure of the appropriate time to demand mask-choice.
Ryan didn’t wait, he didn’t ask. He knew. He knew the science, and I trusted his heart, because he was open, consistent, and speaking my hidden thoughts.
I reached out to him, maybe it was March of this year. He had already made his decision, he was going to run. I knew I wasn’t ready, but I wanted to be like Ryan, and like another brave woman we both knew who running in Chesterfield.
Ultimately, I moved in a different direction, but Ryan and I developed a bond in our shared goal of reshaping the landscape of NJ education politics.
This is the easiest endorsement I’ve ever written. Vote for Ryan. He is for God, family, and country. He loves his children and his wife. He is proud to be American, and he will serve with courage and humility.
Meet Ryan Cody, in his words…
My name is Ryan Cody. I am 39 years old. I live in Bordentown with my wife Ashely and three children Faith (15), Joshua (6), and Ezekiel (3). We have lived in Bordentown for 9 years. I was born and raised in Binghamton, NY, but I attended high school in New Jersey at Blair Academy. At Blair, I played football and was on the national champion wrestling team.
After Blair, I went on to the attend college at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Political Science. I eventually ended up in a Master of Education Program at SUNY Buffalofor Higher Education Administration. After the first year, I dropped out of the program because I did not agree with the radical leftist curriculum, and with the direction highereducation was going.
I saw that higher education was losing it’s focus on education and shifting toward wasteful amenities toattract students. The amenities race coupled with federally-backed student loans lead colleges and universities to charge students exorbitant tuition amounts. The more I learned about the system from the inside the more I realized that a 4-year college degree isn’t necessary for most students, especially at the current price tag.
Fast forward several years and a few moves, I now have a very successful career in technology. I am currently a Senior Technology Advisor at Miles Technologies in Lumberton, NJ.
I decided to run for school board because of our district’s disastrous handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic revealed how broken our public education system in New Jersey truly is. It has uncovered the extreme power the New Jersey Education Association (the teachers union) has over public education and our district. Under the influence of the NJEA, Bordentown children and families have been put last. My commitment to the community is that I will put the interests and well-being of our children first. I will be a passionate and relentless advocate for every child and family in the district.
The pillars of my platform are Children 1st (my campaign slogan), fiscal responsibility, and education not indoctrination.
In my free time, I enjoy attending Liturgy (Church), playing with my children, working out, spending time in nature, gardening (food not flowers), and hunting.
Radical elements from the left have taken over public K-12 education in New Jersey. We need to take our schools back. And we’ll do it one board at a time.
Editor’s Note: Normally, I set the interview questions and format the Spotlight around my chosen framework. With Ryan, I let him lead the way. When he says we will take over the school boards one by one, I take his word as true.
