Dear Governor Murphy, Esteemed Assemblyman/woman,
I am disappointed in the New State Standards out of the Department of Education. You are destroying the innocence of children by lowering the ages of sex education and teaching gender theory in the K-12 classroom.
What problem are we trying to solve that you decided to lower the grades for sex education? Explain to me how learning about sex in earlier grades promotes better outcomes for MY CHILD? What is the point in second grade to have an open discussion about children’s genitals (2.1.2.PGD.5) and sexual child abuse (2.3.2PS.7, 2.3.2PS.8)? Show me the study that this benefits my second grader.
How does it benefit my 10 year old, 5th grader, to learn about masturbation (2.1.5.PGD.4) sexual intercourse and human reproduction(2.1.5.PP.1)? I didn’t learn the term “sexual intercourse” until high school. Show me the study that shows learning about masturbation at 11 will improve my child’s mental health.
By 8th grade our children would have learned what use to be introduced to seniors in high school: pregnancy options(2.1.8.PP.1), stages of pregnancy (2.1.8.PP.2), where to get resources for prenatal care and parenting (2.1.8.PP.3)(2.1.8.PP.5), vaginal, oral, anal sex (2.1.8.SSH.9), condoms (2.1.8.SSH.10) and STIss/ HIV (2.1.8.SSH.11,2.1.8.CHSS.32.1.8.CHSS.5). If this is what they learn in middle school, what is left for high school?
It is beyond inappropriate to burden 12/13 year old’s with stories of Child trafficking, child pornography (2.1.8.CHSS.2) and abortion (2.1.8.PP.1).
NEVER would it ever be appropriate for a teacher, IN ANY GRADE, to help a child decide whether and when to engage in sexual behaviors(2.1.8.SSH.7) (2.1.8.SSH.8).
Discussing the range of ways people express their gender and how gender-role stereotypes may limit behavior (1.2.SSH.2, 2.1.5.SSH.1) is completely inappropriate for any grade. What is next? Discussing racial stereotypes? This sexist approach is not appropriate for K-12.
And the most concerning is the topic of Gender Identity Theory (2.1.12.SSH. 1, 2.1.5.SSH.2) which should be saved for sociology college class, NOT K-12 students. Telling impressionable kids that they can choose their own gender is damaging and untrue.
Having children promote dignity for special interest groups (2.1.5.SSH.3, 2.1.8.SSH.2, 2.1.12.SSH.2, 2.1.12.SSH.3) that are influential in Democratic party politics is completely disingenuous.
I’m not sure what was running through the mind of the DOE when they came up with these standards, but it certainly wasn’t to benefit the children. Keep your politics out of our schools.
Sincerely,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Can that perv picture be a billboard?
