While many school districts are working to fight to get the masks off the kids, other school districts are taking this opportunity to create punitive and unnecessary rules. These outrageous pandemic procedures created by schools are snowballing and parents are getting angry. Many of these rules look more appropriate for juvie than the nurturing environment we expect from the public school system.
Some of the rules are downright goofy. Shalick HS in south Jersey has a one-way rule in the hallways. Students can’t even go to the next class that is diagonal without walking around the entire school since they have to travel one-way through the hallways. Then at lunch time or any other time in the cafeteria, you can sit wherever you like and no social distancing.
At least they can have a normal lunch with their friends. Wall Middle School sent out an email stating the kids need to pick and sit in groups of 4 students for lunch and are not to permitted change their seating assignments for the entire school year unless cleared by guidance counselor. This leaves a lot to be desired, what about a group of 5 friends? What about the new students who haven’t met 4 friends? students with special needs? students who are bullied? This does not really give them a chance to make new friends and socialize.
Remember when you thought the homeschool kids were weird because they didn’t socialize? Turns out they will be socializing normally this year (like they do every year) and your public school child will not have that benefit. Especially now since many are leaving the school. Look for info in our news letter about county meet-and-greets for new homeschoolers.
Hoboken is going to mandate weekly COVID testing for non-vaccinated students over 12 years old. When do you think this rule will be coming to your school?
West Deptford School District thought it would be appropriate to be excessively punitive about mask wearing. They threaten detentions, a $2 surcharge and banning your child to the virtual room of the school so they can no longer see their friends and become “socially isolated.” Apparently this school enjoys watching the kids suffocate or suffer; they should just get out a ruler and go with the corporal punishment.
The most outrageous is when the West Deptford Schools warned parents that the second time your child refuses to wear a mask that they would be calling DYFS.
Its frivolous and embarrassing for the school to dream up such a punitive measures. The Department of child and families is protecting children in danger, not to be used in a BOE battle with the parents.
Of course the West Deptford BOE caught backlash from their excessive reaction and is now hiding from the parents by having a virtual meeting this week.
Cowards.
The BOEs are taking these mandates to the extreme. None of this is a shocker since many of the districts won’t even conduct the BOE meeting unless all parents are masked. They just pick their elitist ass up out of their meeting seat, get up and walk right out, leaving their duties unattended. Then blame the parents for ‘not behaving.’
This is not a paid position so I assume these people get their jollies by throwing their power all over the room. At least that’s what it looks like to me.
The schools are falling apart. They seem to be unable to come up with adequate rules that prevent disease or ensure safety. We saw this shit show a few years ago with the response to school shooters after Sandy Hook.
Maybe this idea of state warehouse education no longer is adequate education we were promised. We need a change. Please share this news letter so that we can gather more people and change the education system for the better. For our kids.
