Why Age Verification for Adult Sites is Non-Negotiable for Protecting Kids
We make a big deal about pornography books being in a public or school library, however, the truth is that kids can access it anytime they want from the comfort of their own homes—or their friend’s homes. Now is the time to work together to fix the more immediate problem: The internet is a far more pervasive threat.
Children can access explicit content online faster than they can figure out how to use a search engine. No amount of parental control or filtering will stop a curious 13-year-old from finding their way to adult material. The solution? Age verification for adult websites. It’s a simple, necessary step to protect young minds from harm—yet somehow, we’re hesitant to do it and make excuses on why it can’t be done. But why?
Children’s Brains Aren’t Ready for This
Children and teens are still developing their brains, particularly the areas responsible for decision-making, impulse control, and understanding complex emotional and sexual dynamics. Letting them consume explicit material at this stage is like handing them a loaded gun without proper guidance. It can alter their understanding of relationships, intimacy, and consent—making them more vulnerable to unhealthy behaviors.
Pornography, especially when consumed excessively at a young age, can also lead to addiction. The addictive nature of porn works similarly to substance addiction, hijacking the brain's reward system and leaving long-term effects. It’s a neurological train wreck waiting to happen. And the sad truth is, teens are far more likely to get addicted to it than adults… and we’re allowing this to happen to kids every day because we do not take action.
Protecting Kids Isn’t an Invasion of Privacy
Let’s cut the nonsense about privacy. We’ve all had to show ID to buy alcohol, tobacco, or enter a casino. It’s not about surveillance—it’s about keeping kids away from content they shouldn’t be exposed to. Age verification isn’t an infringement on rights; it’s a basic duty to protect our children from harmful material.
WE ALREADY DO THIS FOR GAMBLING SIGHTS!! THERE ARE NO EXCUSES AGAINST AGE VERFICATION!
We already have strict age checks for gambling, because we recognize the destructive power of addiction. Gambling can ruin lives, and so can pornography. So why is it that the same systems we use to protect kids from gambling are suddenly too much of an inconvenience when it comes to adult content?
It’s Time to Act
Age verification isn’t a "nice-to-have" feature—it’s an urgent requirement. Parents can’t be expected to monitor every click, but together we can fix this problem by supporting Cole Allen Johnson in his efforts to create New Jersey legislation that can protect our kids. On his website https://screennewjersey.org/, you can find the bill A4146 by Assemblyman Jay Webber, cosponsored by Dunn, Fantasia, Inganamort, Scharfenberger, Flynn and Barranco.
We need more of the assembly for this bill, please contact your legislature today by clicking HERE.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/supreme-court-texas-age-verification-requirement-for-pornography-websites/ Let's hope it goes our way and crazy interpretations of laws do not prevail. I don't know anyone who could file an amicus brief!
I wrote to my legislators in a letter and got zero response at all, we need to raise the temperature until they take action. There also should be more awareness about this, compared to books in libraries, the content is both more extreme and explicit and also easier to access without any supervision.
Let me add this, Nic, that the people on the school boards that need this to be said to them. As long as they follow these porn agendas by this scumbag, pedo governor are pedos themselves as long as they condone his agenda.
It needs to be blatanly said to each of them, especially past boards as well as newly elected boards. Until you get a better representation of elected officials in this state, its going no where.
