When you are told that there is nothing the BOE can do, they have to follow the mandate, their hands are tied, and they are bound by the EO - here is proof that they CAN DO SOMETHING. Unmasking can be accomplished for your individual child or for a staff members.
With many advocates throughout the state, we have received the following from Josh Aikens, Chairman of Arise NJ, that there is confidence that masks can be optional for your children IF the wearing of the mask creates a health concern, without the requirement of a doctor note (though a note would solidify your position even further), IEP, or 504.
You, as the parent, are making the case on behalf of your child. The attached template CLICK HERE should be used - fill in the blanks, and describe the health issues the masks create for your child, sticking only to the symptoms specific to your child (do not make scientific points or bring in statistics). Attach the filled out document to the letter written below.
There is also a sample document for Staff. CLICK HERE
If you have any questions, you can reach out to Josh Aikens (email: info@arisenj.com) (phone: 973-903-3171).
I am encouraging all of you that are in support of this, to share it with others, and email the attachments/links to your superintendent, and all members of your BOE.
Here is an example of what Shana sent to her school district that you are welcome to use and personalize to your school district (see below). thanks, Shana! She sent this letter in an email, with the parent attestation filled out for her child’s issues, EO251, and the resolution from Middletown. If you click on the attachments below, you will get the pdf both the Middletown document and EO251, or you can just copy and paste the links from this document.
Subject: Resolution-Template EO251
Dear Superintendent and Board of Education,
Please see the attached resolution from the Middletown Township Board of Education on implementing a policy pursuant to Executive Order 251, which states that the District "must maintain a policy regarding mandatory use of face masks by staff, students, and visitors in the indoor portion of the school district premises..."
I encourage you to use this resolution as a template in the implementation of a policy as required in EO251 for our school district. It is reasonable in meeting the needs of our community, and is accordance with EO251.
I have also attached templates for your review and consideration that is inclusive of all impacted by EO251, including both students and staff.
I am respectfully requesting confirmed receipt of this email and the attached documents, and ask for consideration in presenting this as a guide in the development of the school district policy.
Thank you,
