Meeting the State Standards
How does your school address the following state standard for 6th to 8th graders?
2.1.8.SSH.2: Develop a plan for the school to promote dignity and respect for people of all genders, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations in the school community.
Chatham NJ (Morris County) in 7th Grade Health, they addressed this state standard with the following lesson:
What???
Is the objective of this lesson to instruct your child to use persuasive techniques through the crafting of superficial and attention-grabbing slogans? This lesson appears insincere and devoid of substance. Why aren’t parents aren't frustrated by the fact that valuable class time is being squandered on this, especially when there's still a substantial learning deficit resulting from the impact of COVID on education.
Additionally, it's essential to instill in children a sincere and profound concern for the welfare of ALL PEOPLE. Treating everyone equally does not mean singling out a particular group for special recognition through posters. If this is trying to teach empathy, they are doing it wrong.
By the way, parents can opt out of these types of lessons if a letter is written at the beginning of every year.
State Standards
If you have no idea what is going on with state standards, below are articles outlining the state new standards implemented between 2020 and 2022. These articles are organized by grade groups, so when it specifies "end of the 5th grade," it encompasses any time between 3rd and 5th grade.
Parents can opt out of these types of lessons, but it must be done at the beginning of EACH year.
This is disgraceful that this has continued as long as it did. The people need to demand these boards all step down,
The only time the majority of the people will get upset will be about their money. Kids don't seem to matter.
This is disgusting. These superintendents, BOEs, educators, teachers, etc all need to say no to teaching this garbage when our children are behind in EVERY SINGLE area of education post pandemic and in mental health crisis in NJ (and all over) in light of pandemic lockdowns, quarantines, online schooling and masking for years that did absolutely nothing to “stop the spread” of the plandemic “virus”. The focus of public schools is to be on academics only. The LBTQ agenda is a political platform which needs to stay out of public schools- unless they also want to teach the other side which would be the alt Christian conservative agenda (also not what I suspect anyone wants their children learning bcs also Wtaf). If only people would start jumping up and down and freaking out in the same manor if that were the case. This is a religious platform in the same exact way. It needs to stop being forced on our children in the exact same way.
