These comments are sad. Im glad im not in those districts because i would have to sue all of them. Brick school district has made masks optional for last week and this week. They support parents choice. When its 75 outside, its hotter inside. My son comes home with sweat dripping off his face without a mask. Its sad to hear that these BOE members are so against even talking about it. They need to go. They need to resign.

No!!! In fact our Super when asked at BTo S Night at his welcome table… first insisted it wasn t the time to talk about it. When pushed he said my answer is no. I choose to follow the Governors mandate. He somehow already knew the night before the hot weather was coming that it wouldn t be hot enough for the children to have to remove their mask. He must be a profit!! They all need to be held accountable. Go after their jobs!!!! Moneys the only thing that seems to matter to them. That and their egos!

Freehold allowed masks optional on the bus but not the classrooms because they are air conditioned. Some of the classrooms AC is broken so they were going to move them or have them remove masks. Meanwhile, the last 8 days of school they allowed them to remove masks due to extreme heat. What's the difference between June and September?! Ridiculous!

Yes, if the temperature is above 80 outside no masks. This doesn't take into consideration if the classrooms are above 80 or if it is 79 with 80% humidity! ABSOLUTELY INSANE!

Southern Regional School District made masks optional on the bus on the way home a couple days, but they did not communicate this with the parents. They made an announcement in the school. No other accommodations were made despite making masks optional at all times at the end of last school year due to heat.

Don’t Mask Children, Epidemiology Experts Warn

Kids should not be forced to wear masks, University of California San Francisco professor Vinay Prasad recently said, echoing other epidemiology experts.

“Early childhood is a crucial period when humans develop cultural, language, and social skills, including the ability to detect emotion on other people’s faces,” Prasad wrote. “Social interactions with friends, parents, and caregivers are integral to fostering children’s growth and well-being.”

Yes. Mask optional for the first two weeks due to the heat. The kids were supposed to wear them entering and exiting the building this week (so as to “transition them for the cooler weather and mask wearing”), but no one enforced it. My high school freshman said that about 1/3 of the kids were wearing them.

The schools my boys attend have been great. Both have medical mask exemptions and both boys said none of the teachers enforce the masks at all.

I called and spoke with our Nurse yesterday, since temps reached 90 degrees and my 4th grader's classroom does not have AC. She said, they are given mask breaks (but would not give me a specific duration when I asked), and can drink as much water as they want to get extra breaks. I asked my son, and he said the breaks are just for a sip of water and needs to return to his face. Masks are NOT optional under extreme heat conditions in our district. Apparently, their only alternative is to end school early (this has to be decided by the district) if the temperature is "oppressive". I'm beside myself.

I’ve seen reports about Brick schools maintaining the right to choose to wear masks because of the heat. I hope they’ve done that. I’ve also seen pushback from people who think masks need to be worn regardless. It’s truly unbelievable.

No. My 5th grader does not have AC and teachers have said it needs to be 90 degrees and above outside to take masks off inside. It’s disgusting.

Not that I know of. In fact, a member of BOE basically yelled at me for even bringing it up
