Where Can Teens Get Their Hands on Porn These Days?
Remember when you were a kid, and the boys wanted a glimpse of Hustler, they would have to wander out to the old hollow tree, deep in the woods, and pull out the water stained, dirt smudged magazines that Jared stole from his father’s bathroom… good times. Today, if the kids want see girl on girl action in cartoon form, look no further than your local high school english class at West Morris Mendham High School.
Senior students, in the classes of Ms. Jocelyn Harris and Ms. Kimberly Kutlu, were assigned a book that would make 17 year-old Larry Flynt Blush. “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic” is a 2006 graphic memoir by the American cartoonist Alison Bechdel, author of the comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For”, among other classics. This comic book follows a young girl to adulthood as she comes to grips with her own lesbian sexuality, her father's suicide, and his secret homosexuality, bisexuality, and his lust for teen boys. The memoir over focuses on her sexual development, including transcripts from her childhood diary, anecdotes about masturbation, and graphic images of her first sexual encounter. This book is 17 and up, however the graphic sex acts displayed in the book look more like an XXX magazine. The book tries to be high-brow🧐 by making references to Greek mythology and Camus, but it doesn’t really meet the level of reading you would expect from high school seniors. How high-brow can an author get when she is discussing a book “exploring her sexuality.”
“I Know Porn When I see It”- Except If You’re the Head of the English Department
Approved by the English Department, a committee of teachers and administrators, this graphic comic book had no issue sliding right on through to a mandatory reading assignment im the 12th grade classroom. Recently this book has been challenged by parents but Joseph Geddes (English Department Head) won’t even entertain that this book may not be appropriate for highschool seniors. He will not let this one go down without a fight. He’s digging his heels in so the parents are now taking it straight to the Board of Education yesterday.
Funny thing about this book, the kids can read it... but aren’t permitted to take the book home. Probably because the english department doesn’t want parents to see the graphic porn, the sympathetic view of the father’s pedophila or the casual view of his suspected suicide.
The suicide is described as a reference to Camus’s, The Myth of Sisyphus. Albert Camus (pronounced camooo) was a french writer who died in 1960, his casual view of suicide is featured in Fun Family. Pretty sure none of these kids had a chance to read and interpret this book in their whole 17 years on this earth. There were a lot of references in this book that a high school student would have never had read to make this book more meaningful.
Camus views suicide as a natural response to an underlying reality, namely, that life is absurd. Camus finds “that the universe is irrational and human life meaningless” so you have to find things in life that make it worth living. According to Camus, people commit suicide “because they judge life is not worth living.” This is all high level philosophical thinking that is not appropriate for the developing brain of teenagers who have a low level of depression and a high risk of suicide.
What makes a high school teacher qualified to deal with the psychological ramifications that will happen in group discussion about this book. Exploring your sexuality, your dad’s sexuality and your dad’s suicide sounds like there needs to be a trained psychologist in these discussions.
Freaks Shriek “BOOK BANNING”
Calm down pervs, no one is stopping you from purchasing this book on Amazon and showing it to your kids or some random kids on the street. Just be prepared that if you are showing this to a kid that’s not yours, you can expect some broken teeth.
This is the sword you Alphabet Activists want to die on? That's like dying in the toilet, with your face in the bowl and your bare ass in the air.
Embarrassing.
Books about exploring your sexuality and YOUR DAD’s sexuality, shouldn’t be an open group classroom discussion with minor highschool children. This is something for you to discuss in college, your adult book club and your sexual addiction group therapy.
New Jersey Public Schools seem to have bad judgment as to what is appropriate for kids. Watch these moms from Washington Township read The child rape scene that was supposed to be read by their 14/15 year olds. And make sure you take a look at the next series of pages from Fun Home.
If you think this is appropriate, I dare you to find the unedited version of the book, share it on your social media and tag some high school kids. Note, I had to put yellow emoji faces in the appropriate spots so that substack would allow me to post these images and not ban this publication. You get the censored version, but your kids will get the Full Monty.
This is why our fight is so important. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore
Do they really hate children that much? I have no words for what I am feeling right now as an educator, mother, woman, and a decent human being.
