It’s almost impossible to advocate for your kids in New Jersey public schools without being hassled by the law. The New Jersey Attorney General aggressively going after Hanover township for writing legislation that no longer forces teachers to hide LGBTQ+ secrets from their parents.
Additionally, parents are being sued for comments made at BOE meetings. You are probably aware of the porn pushing Roxbury Librarian using the court to punish parents for speaking out against pornographic books detailing how to give good handjobs and proper use of butt plugs.
Salacious indeed.
Now parents are being attacked for asking boring questions. <BIG YAWN>
It all started when four parents realized that Vivian Yudin King, vice president of the RIH BOE (appointed to school board finance/facilities committee) ALSO happens to be an employee of Yudin Appliance, owned by her parents, Susan Yudin, President and Bob Yudin. Yuden Appliance had contracts with the BOE for appliances for the school…
The natural question is … IS THERE ANY CONFLICT OF INTEREST? Can you be on BOE school facilities committee while your parents are selling appliances to the school?
Specifically the question was,
“Would it not be a conflict of interest if a board member who sits on the Finance and Facilities Committee, responsible for awarding purchase orders, to engage with her family business who is a vendor for the district and is also her employer?” - Cynthia Phillips
Other parents Joel Anish and Deb Mutter made comments of a similar nature.
The BOE meeting is the one opportunity for parents to question the ethics of school board members. The question is not an accusation, but a typical question that would be asked of ANY POLITICIAN holding office in this similar situation.
The Board Attorney logically explained that Vivian Yudin King abstained on votes regarding Yudin Appliance as a vender, she had fully disclosed her relationship with the appliance company before sworn in, and Yudin Appliance had been a previous vender before Vivian Yudin King was voted onto the BOE.
Vivian Yudin King seemed to have an over-emotional reaction to the parents’ questions and was offended by the question of impropriety of her family’s business. So at the next meeting Cynthia Reveals explained that she had no animosity towards Yudin Appliance and she just wanted more transparency about the transactions between the school and Yudin Appliance.
Frustrated with the interactions with the school, the parents started a youtube channel called Board Buzz. The problem is the school transparency, not with Yudin Appliance itself, but that didn’t stop the appliancy company from SUING THE PARENTS!!!
If you and your family are overly sensitive about questions involving your family business then maybe you shouldn’t be on the BOE? No one was saying that your company was stealing from the district. No one said that the cost was not fair. Parents were asking for transparency from the school and explained why they needed to learn more about the transactions.
If you know you are doing nothing wrong, then what is the big deal here?
Why can’t parents ask THE SCHOOL for more transparency about vendors that have a conflict of interest with BOE members without getting sued by the vendor?
These types of lawsuits are outrageous and stop transparency within the school system. Parents become afraid about questioning the district when a third party can sue for their inquiry.
Please help the parents and make a small donation to stop this lawsuit and to help protect citizens Freedom of Speech to question their elected officials.
More details can be found on the Parent’s website.
That is insane! OPRA it ALL!
Pull all financials. The boe are not political and are elected by their constituents! And you are exactly right, if there’s nothing to hide then what’s the problem?!?!
They could look into a school ethics complaint.
