The use of a Bible or other religious texts during the swearing-in ceremony is more of a tradition rather than a legal requirement. This ensures that people of various religious beliefs, or those who do not adhere to a particular faith, can still take the oath of office in a manner that aligns with their personal convictions. While many officials choose to incorporate religious texts into their swearing-in ceremonies as a matter of tradition or personal choice, it is not a mandatory requirement outlined in the Constitution. Therefore, elected officials can take a secular oath or affirmation, emphasizing the commitment to truthfulness and the responsibilities associated with the office without invoking a religious text. Unless you are a raging leftist who just won a school board seat, then you will probably will make up your own weird thing and swear-in on porn or other nonsense books.
Many of the bad apples (radical hard leaning leftists) who won board of education seats this year decided they could probably swear in on just about anything, making a mockery of the entire process. In Virginia and Pennsylvania, newly elected clowns are swearing in on the porn books like Gender Queer and other explicit sexual books that target gay minors. Of course New Jersey has their own set of clowns doing the same thing.
Alison McGeary from Rockaway had the stones to actually reveal to the public what she had under her hand: works of fiction, biographies, and a Time magazine with Taylor Swift on the cover… but at least it wasn’t porn. She also put her hand on a the Divine Comedy, which has 500 direct quotations and allusions to the Bible, but couldn’t put her hand on the actual Bible. Make it make sense.
Newly elected Michael-Anne Regan, Special Education Teacher from Roselle Park, also swore-in on a pile of books, however no one could see what they were.
This just makes a mockery of the entire Board of education. I don’t see senators taking an oath on nonsense books, because they take an oath seriously. If you don’t have a religion, then what is wrong with swearing in on your own convictions?
How did the swearing in Ceremony go in your town?
The scariest part is soon we will have a whole generation of this. If you are religious and want to use a Bible,Koran or Torah go ahead. But if you have no faith then use the constitution or book of ethics . The tax payers are paying your salary never take this for granted .I know the world is changing from the 70s 80s but change is not always a good thing ,especially when it creates disorder and chaos. If you make a mockery of the institution then it says that institution is null and void. Most people do this for shock value or as I call the me generation. JFK,Dr Kings values have all been forgotten.
The tradition of swearing on the Bible is an important one with historical significance. The idea of an oath is that it is a promise to God which, if broken, will result in the person being destined for Hell. Thus, oaths were solemn and were considered to be unbreakable. Swearing on porn presumably will cause a woman to get a yeast infection if she violates it, perhaps. Not quite the same, is it? We get the Democracy that we deserve.
